The beaches in town:
-Parsons Beach, a long sandy beach, surrounded by Maine dunes, located near the Kennebunk / Wells border, off of route 9. Free parking is available.
-Kennebunk Beach, which includes Mother's Beach, Middle Beach, and of course Kennebunk's largest beach Gooch's. Two roads off of route 9 will bring you to the ocean front: Beach Road, or Sea Road. These are the beaches located less than one mile from us here at the King's Port Inn. Parking passes are required for these beaches and are available for rental here at the front desk for our quests to use.
-Colony Beach, a smaller rocky beach is located directly across from the Colony Hotel off of Ocean Avenue.
-Goose Rocks Beach, is a more secluded beach with shallow tidal pools. Located on the King's Highway off route 9. Parking stickers are available at Town Hall or the Kennebunkport Police Station. It's July already and Stripers are in the water, Striped Bass that is. People in town have been landing them left and right. May is usually the month the striped bass start to head into Maine seas. They come in schools (lots of small fish) often referred to as "schoolies". Now in July those "schoolies" have started to grow and are now Big Fish.
Rules and regulations about fishing for striped bass: The limit is one fish per day. The length allowed to keep is 20 inches to 26 inches, those are what we like to call "keepers". Also any striped bass over 40 inches are allowed to be kept, still one per day though. Once you have caught your limit of one fish per person per day, you may keep fishing but all other fish caught must be released. There is more information available at http://www.maine.gov/dmr. Information about various charters in the area can be obtained here at the King's Port Inn, located in the center of Lower Village Kennebunk / Kennebunkport. The King's Port Inn is just minutes walking to some of the best fishing spots in town. A couple great places to try throwing in a line are the Jetti at the Colony Beach, the Cape Porpoise Pier, or anywhere just off the ocean shore. There will be a great frieworks display on July 4th held at Kennebunk Beach. For the best view of the show it's good to arrive early because parking is limited. There are many other great places to view the fireworks such as the Arundel Warf Restaurant http://www.arundelwharf.com/ has a great patio and a fantastic menu, or another great place to see them is the jetti at Colony Beach. So whatever your plans, be sure to take time and enjoy the show. Perhaps the best hand-carved roast beef sandwiches in Maine. They only use Certified Angus Beef. On Sunday September 12th, from noon to 4:30 p.m. Coastal Maine Kayak and the Brick Store Museum are teaming up to offer Kayaking Through History. It will be a guided kayak excursion up the Kennebunk River.
To go along with this fun river experience, the Brick Store Museum is holding a new exhibition: " In the Maine Stream". The exhibit features vintage paddles ands oars, and an 1899 Wabanaki birchbark canoe.
Participants for this river adventure will experience the Kennebunk River from unique perspectives. You will be given a narrated scenic tour of the river. You will see georgious views of nature and such local areas as Cape Arundel Golf Club, Picnic Rock, Durell's Bridge, and many other places of interest.
